This is a double sided platform clock by Smiths, one of the big three commercial clock makers of the 20th century which also included Synchronome and Gents of Leicester.
This is a Smiths Sectric model and with its mains movement, we date it to around 1938.
Recovered from an Oxfordshire railway station, this clock had received some considerable wear and tear. The glass on both sides had been broken and on one side you can see where it has been left in the sun, resulting in fading of the numbers adding to the charm of this piece.
The steel casing was in a poor condition. This and the hands have been sand blasted and powder coated in satin black as it would have originally looked.
The brass screws and fittings have been polished and look well against the aged face. 1m of black chain and a ceiling hook are provided with this clock.
The original mains movement does keep good time but may need a slight adjustment once every 1-2 weeks. This is easily done using the push twist adjusters at the bottom of the clock.
Originally designed for use in a railway station, this clock with its 18 inch diameter face would be a welcome addition to any residential or commercial space where both sided of the clock could be viewed like a kitchen island, office, bar restaurant or shop.
