Heirloom Quality & Intricate Casting A truly rare and museum-quality flush-to-ceiling fixture sourced from the historic archives of W. Sitch & Co, Soho.
This piece is defined by its spectacular "cage" construction. Unlike standard fittings where the glass sits inside a ring, here the heavy cast bronze climbs over the dome in a series of exquisite floral swags. Finely detailed garlands of roses and leaves drape across the satin glass, meeting at the base with intricate ribbon bow motifs. The level of casting detail is exceptional—you can see individual petals and leaf veins in high relief.
The glass itself is a satin crystal dome, frosted to provide a soft, diffused light. It is finished with a sharp starburst cutat the apex, which sits perfectly centered within the bronze cage. The assembly rests on a heavy base featuring a classic rope-twist border. We have preserved the original heavy patina, allowing the bronze to retain its deep, darkened tones and hints of verdigris that testify to its age.
Provenance: The Sitch & Co Collection This piece hails from the inventory of W. Sitch & Co, London’s renowned lighting engineers established in 1776. Based in Soho, Sitch & Co were the go-to specialists for the capital’s most prestigious projects.
While they manufactured their own designs, they also supplied and maintained fixtures from the world’s finest makers—including F & C Osler, GEC, and Faraday & Son. Their client list read like a Who’s Who of British heritage, supplying fixtures to National Trust properties, grand country manors, government offices, and West End theatres.
To own a piece from this collection is to own a fixture that has passed through the hands of England’s most exacting lighting curators.
Restoration & Specification The fitting has been sensitively restored in our Nottingham workshop. The intricate bronze work has been carefully cleaned to remove loose grime while strictly preserving the "as-found" patina.
