Industrial Scale & Ethereal Glass A monumental and heavily built flush-to-ceiling fixture sourced from the historic archives of W. Sitch & Co, Soho.

The centrepiece of this fitting is a rare and substantial Jefferson Moonstone glass bowl. Famous for its translucent, ethereal quality, the Moonstone glass here features a distinct moulded "waffle" or grid texture. When unlit, the glass has a milky, opalescent blue hue; when illuminated, the grid pattern catches the light to produce a soft, atmospheric glow that is completely glare-free. It is finished with a polished brass tear-drop finial at the apex.

The glass is anchored by a huge cast bronze gallery of significant weight. This is not a polished decorative piece; it is a survivor. We have deliberately preserved the heavy, original patina, retaining the layers of verdigris and darkened bronze that have developed over a century. This rugged, industrial finish provides the perfect counterpoint to the delicate, jewel-like quality of the glass.

Provenance: The Sitch & Co Collection This piece hails from the inventory of W. Sitch & Co, London’s renowned lighting engineers established in 1776. Based in Soho, Sitch & Co were the go-to specialists for the capital’s most prestigious projects.

While they manufactured their own designs, they also supplied and maintained fixtures from the world’s finest makers—including F & C Osler, GEC, and Faraday & Son. Their client list read like a Who’s Who of British heritage, supplying fixtures to National Trust properties, grand country manors, government offices, and West End theatres.

To own a piece from this collection is to own a fixture that has passed through the hands of England’s most exacting lighting curators.

Restoration & Specification The fitting has been sensitively restored in our Nottingham workshop. The bronze work has been lightly cleaned to remove loose grime while strictly preserving the "as-found" heavy patina and verdigris character.

It has been re-engineered for modern safety:

  • Wiring: Brand new, certified cabling.

  • Holders: Fitted with new internal ceramic bulb holders (E27 or B22 as required).

  • Testing: Fully earth-bonded and safety tested to UK & International standards.
