Original Recessed Installation Example – Offered Pre-Restoration
A large and characterful Art Deco period square wall clock by Gents of Leicester, originally designed to be set into a wall recess, most likely within a cinema, public building, or industrial interior.
The dial is particularly strong visually, with bold Art Deco Arabic numerals and geometric indices. A distinctive feature is the flat-topped “8”, a typographic detail occasionally seen on Gents dials of the period and one which gives the clock a slightly more graphic, modernist feel than their standard railway or factory models.
The clock survives in original, unrestored condition, retaining its aged painted frame and beautifully worn dial surface with natural cracking and patination developed over decades of use. This untouched state gives the piece a depth that is rarely replicated once restored.
It is currently mounted in its original recessed configuration and will be supplied fully restored and ready for installation. As with some of our larger architectural clocks, we are offering it in advance of restoration to allow the purchaser to influence the final finish. Our plan is to construct a steel wall-mounted case to house the clock and new electrical components while keeping the external appearance faithful to the original installation.
Clocks of this type work particularly well in hospitality interiors, bars, kitchens, loft spaces, or commercial environments where a strong graphic focal point is desired.
