A mid-century British industrial wall clock by Gent & Co. Ltd of Leicester, housed in a moulded brown Bakelite case with attractive light mottling throughout. Clocks of this type were made as slave dials for Gent's electric time systems and hung in factories, schools, offices and public buildings across Britain. This example has been converted to a modern battery quartz movement, so it is ready to hang and run anywhere.

The Case
The case is moulded Bakelite, one of the defining industrial materials of the period, in a warm brown with light natural mottling that gives each case its own character. It has been polished to bring back a deep, even sheen.
The Dial
The dial is marked Gent of Leicester and carries fine minute indices with straight baton hands: a clean, legible and understated layout that sits easily in both period and contemporary interiors.
The Movement
The clock has been converted to a battery quartz movement for reliable, maintenance-free timekeeping, without the need for a master clock or impulse circuit.
Gent of Leicester
Gent & Co. Ltd of Leicester were one of Britain's foremost makers of electric clock systems. Their Pul-Syn-Etic impulse system allowed a single master clock to drive networks of slave dials across large sites, and Gent clocks became standard fittings in railway stations, factories, hospitals, schools and public buildings throughout the twentieth century. Bakelite-cased dials like this one represent the company's mid-century production, when the material's durability and clean moulded forms made it the natural choice for institutional timekeeping.
