A rare and beautifully detailed plafonnier light, this 14-inch Jefferson “Doric” moonstone hemisphere (catalogue ref. G1556) appears in the 1926 GEC lighting catalogue as a premium model of the period.

Crafted from thick moonstone glass with a soft opalescent glow, the bowl is paired with refined brass fittings, showcasing classic Art Nouveau craftsmanship with early hints of Art Deco elegance.

Jefferson Moonstone Glass Light Shades

Jefferson Moonstone glass light shades, crafted by the Jefferson Glass Company in the early 20th century, are celebrated as exquisite examples of American glass artistry. Founded in 1900 in Follansbee, West Virginia, the Jefferson Glass Company was a pioneer in creating opalescent glassware. Their Moonstone range, introduced during the height of their success, showcased a delicate translucence and subtle glow that captured the light beautifully, making these shades highly desirable both then and now.

Moonstone glass shades were typically made from milky white or softly colored opalescent glass, often featuring intricate patterns such as floral designs, ribbing, or swirls. The craftsmanship of these shades demonstrated Jefferson’s expertise in manipulating glass to achieve a balance of elegance and durability. They were designed not only to diffuse light gently but also to serve as decorative focal points, making them a popular choice for domestic and commercial lighting during the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods.

A Timeless Appeal for Modern Interiors

Jefferson Moonstone glass light shades remain highly sought after by collectors and homeowners alike, prized for their luminous quality and timeless beauty. Their soft, ethereal glow makes them perfect for creating warm and inviting atmospheres in modern interiors. These shades pair effortlessly with a variety of lighting fixtures, from pendant lights to table lamps, adding a touch of vintage charm and sophistication to any space.

Why Choose a Reclaimed Moonstone Glass Shade?
