Large Art Deco Oxidised Copper & Frosted Glass Panel Pendant
England, Circa 1930
A striking large-scale Art Deco pendant light of geometric architectural form, constructed in oxidised copper with nine frosted glass panels.
This is a confident, period-correct statement piece — crisp, angular and symmetrical — embodying the transition from classical ornament into the disciplined geometry of early 20th century Deco design.
The faceted copper framework frames each individual glass panel, creating a lantern-like volume with strong visual rhythm.
Design & Architectural Presence
Nine-panel geometric construction
Oxidised copper framework
Stepped angular profile
Central lower finial detail
Decorative suspension chains
Each glass panel features:
• Frosted exterior surface
• Gloss interior finish
• Subtle textured character within the glass
The result is beautifully diffused light with internal depth — softer and more atmospheric than standard opal glazing.
When illuminated, the gloss interior reflects and enhances output while the frosted exterior tempers glare, creating a balanced ambient glow.
The oxidised copper has developed a rich, natural patina consistent with age, providing tonal warmth against the crisp white glass.
Style Context
This form is typical of late 1920s–early 1930s British Art Deco lighting.
The geometric cut-outs and disciplined symmetry reflect architectural influences of the period — particularly suitable for:
• Period townhouses
• Art Deco apartment buildings
• Boutique hospitality interiors
• Stairwells and landings
• Dining rooms with defined ceiling height
The scale allows it to sit comfortably within generous residential rooms while remaining refined rather than overly ornate.
