Reclaimed RAF Runway Lights by G.E.C
Model ZA202 – Cast Aluminium Airfield Fittings
A rare run of original RAF runway lights manufactured by G.E.C (General Electric Company), once installed within British military airstrips.
These compact but heavily engineered fittings were originally set flush into runway surfaces to guide aircraft during landing and taxiing operations. Built to withstand extreme mechanical pressure, weather exposure and operational demands, they are a superb example of mid-20th century British industrial design.
The cast aluminium bodies retain their original RAF yellow paint, worn and aged through decades of service. Raised cast markings read “G.E.C MADE IN ENGLAND” along with the model designation ZA202, clearly visible within the flange.
The thick domed prismatic glass lenses are deeply ribbed to diffuse and protect the lamp within. Some examples retain original internal blue inserts, historically used for runway colour coding. These inserts can remain for authenticity or be removed during restoration depending on preference.
Small in scale but substantial in build, these fittings carry serious provenance — a true industrial artefact with military heritage.
