Large Jefferson No. 6364 Moonstone Plafonnier
Jefferson Glass with Faraday & Son Fittings
England, Circa 1925–1935
A rare and highly desirable large Jefferson No. 6364 deep bowl plafonnier in luminous Moonstone glass, complete with oxidised copper fittings stamped F&S 29 for Faraday & Son.
An exceptional and fully attributed example — with both the glass and the metalwork clearly marked — something increasingly uncommon in surviving period fittings.
Provenance & Attribution
The bowl is stamped Jefferson 6364, identifying the specific catalogue pattern.
Jefferson were one of Britain’s most respected early 20th century glass manufacturers, renowned for their Moonstone glass — prized for its softly opalescent tone and internal depth when illuminated.
The suspension hanger and ceiling rose are stamped F&S 29, denoting Faraday & Son — a distinguished British lighting manufacturer supplying high-grade architectural and decorative fittings to commercial and civic interiors.
The presence of both original maker marks significantly elevates the piece from a decorative example to a documented period fitting.
Design & Form
Deep bowl Jefferson 6364 profile
16th century-inspired classical curvature
Vertical fluted ribbing to exterior
Soft opalescent Moonstone tone
Four-point oxidised copper suspension
Stamped Faraday & Son ceiling rose and hanger
The Moonstone glass exhibits:
• Gentle internal luminosity
• Subtle translucency
• Balanced light diffusion
• Crisp fluted rib detail
When illuminated, the bowl produces a warm, layered glow — richer than standard opal and far more atmospheric in period interiors.
The oxidised copper fittings retain a deep, aged patina consistent with early 20th century metalwork.
Architectural Presence
With its generous depth and diameter, this model carries strong architectural weight while maintaining refined proportion.
Particularly suited to:
• Country house landings
• Entrance halls
• Stairwells
• Period townhouses
• Boutique hospitality corridors
The deeper bowl form creates a more dramatic downward presence compared to shallower plafonnier models.
