Rare Art Deco Illuminated Cinema Foyer Clock by Synchronome
Large Wall-Mounted Format – Special Commission Example
A rare and unusual large-format illuminated foyer clock by Synchronome, almost certainly produced as a special commission rather than a standard catalogue model.
The dial format is particularly striking, with its elongated proportions, bold Art Deco numerals, and strong geometric hands giving the piece the unmistakable presence of early cinema or public building design. Clocks of this type were typically set into walls within foyers or entrance halls, where both scale and legibility were essential, and this example retains that architectural quality.
The clock is currently housed within its original timber-constructed, bronze-covered hinged mounting frame, confirming its earlier installation within a wall recess. It survives in found, unrestored condition and will be supplied fully restored and ready for use. As part of restoration, we plan to construct a discreet wall-mounted case to allow the clock to be installed externally while housing new electrical components and LED illumination, ensuring the piece functions reliably while retaining its original character.
The movement is a rare 220v mains-powered Synchronome synchronous unit, currently untested. We will assess whether it can be serviced and retained as part of the restoration process, or sympathetically replaced if necessary.
Large illuminated clocks of this type rarely appear on the market and are particularly suited to commercial interiors, bars, hospitality spaces, or residential schemes where a strong architectural focal point is required.
