A rare and substantial example of early industrial lighting by Walsall Conduits Ltd, these oversized bulkhead fittings embody the robust engineering and functional design synonymous with hazardous environment lighting of the period.
Each fitting features a heavy cast iron body with its original prismatic glass diffuser, protected by a solid steel guard. The standout detail is the original brass manufacturer’s nameplate, clearly stamped:

Designed for use in demanding industrial settings including paint works and hazardous environments, these fittings offer exceptional build quality and presence. The deeply moulded prismatic glass maximises light output while adding strong architectural character.
Currently unrestored, the fittings retain a beautiful aged patina with remnants of original paint. Once stripped and refinished, they would suit a dark iron paste finish, creating a rich contrast against the polished brass nameplates.
