Holophane “Widerlite” Prismatic Bulkhead Light
Former MOD Facility, Scotland
1933 Catalogue Model | Smaller Format
An original Holophane “Widerlite” prismatic bulkhead in the more compact format, reclaimed from a Ministry of Defence facility in Scotland.
This model sits within the same 1933 Holophane catalogue series as the larger example — embodying the disciplined geometry and engineered clarity characteristic of early industrial Art Deco design.
Heavy cast aluminium construction combined with Holophane’s signature prismatic glass diffuser gives this smaller format real architectural authority despite its reduced scale.
Authentic pre-war engineered lighting — not reproduction industrial styling.
Historical Context
Holophane were industry leaders in optical glass engineering, developing prismatic systems designed to maximise light efficiency while controlling glare.
The “Widerlite” bulkhead range was developed to provide controlled distribution around the lamp, ensuring maximum utilisation of output in institutional and industrial settings.
Originally specified for governmental and infrastructure environments, these fittings were designed for longevity, mechanical robustness and serviceability.
The chamfered housing and stepped prismatic diffuser reflect restrained early 20th century industrial design with subtle Art Deco influence.
Construction
Heavy cast aluminium body
