Reclaimed Industrial Caged Bulkhead Lights by Walsall Conduits Ltd

A set of reclaimed industrial caged bulkhead lights manufactured by Walsall Conduits Ltd, a British maker specialising in heavy-duty electrical equipment for demanding industrial applications.

These fittings are robust FLP (Flameproof) rated luminaires, originally designed for use in extreme and volatile environments where protection against explosive atmospheres was essential. The solid cast iron construction combined with a thick clear glass enclosure and protective cage makes these a classic example of mid-century industrial safety lighting.

The design features a compact but heavily engineered cast body with integrated mounting base, allowing the fitting to be surface fixed directly to walls or ceilings. The thick glass dome is protected by a simple but effective steel cage, giving the light a strong utilitarian character.

Casting details remain visible including MADE IN ENGLAND and TYPE 6145, along with the Walsall Conduits Ltd marking around the flange, reinforcing the provenance and industrial origin of the fittings.

These lights are currently unrestored, offering flexibility in final finish depending on the intended setting. The cast iron bodies lend themselves particularly well to:

• retaining the original industrial finish and patina

• shot blasting for a clean raw cast iron appearance

• applying an iron paste finish to achieve a dark grey malleable iron look

• allowing a natural rusted finish to develop for a more weathered aesthetic
