A stunning example of a rare and sort after Air Ministry issue navigators lamp made by Herbert Terry and used in the Avro Lancaster Bombers during WW2.
Constructed primarily from aluminium for weight saving purposes and other non magnetic materials to avoid interference with other electrical equipment and featuring a distinct small slim shade the lamp does resemble the iconic domestic anglepoise lamps made by Herbert Terry.
Herbert Terry produced several different types of adjustable lamps for the Air Ministry during this time period which all used and combination of the same and similar parts all starting with the 5C code which is the Air Ministry code for electrical components.
The lamp is marked 5C/1079 to the front of the base, 5C/793 to the rear of the original Bakelite bulb holder and 5C/724
Electrically the lamp runs a very low wattage bulb that runs off a 12v supply which also allowed us to use the existing dimmer switch as per its original use. The lamp base is optional and we can use a selection of original Herbert Terry bases from their industrial catalogue, the lamp is shown with an industrial base which is designed to be secured to a desk / table.
These lamps make wonderful feature lights in any interior and a wonderful conversation piece and piece of history.
