LARGE VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL PAINTED STEEL PENDANT WITH HOLOPHANE PRISMATIC GLASS INSERTS
Reclaimed from a Mill in Huddersfield, England
A substantial mid-20th century industrial pendant of the type designed for high-bay factory and mill environments, reclaimed directly from an industrial mill in Huddersfield. The fitting is constructed in heavy painted steel with a wide-flare shade form and retains its original Holophane prismatic glass reflector insert — the ribbed concentrating glass visible from below gives the fitting its functional character and distinguishes it from later simplified industrial pendants.
The exterior carries its original factory paintwork in a faded industrial blue-grey, with natural wear and paint loss accumulated over decades of working use. This surface has been retained in its found condition and will be preserved through restoration unless the client specifies otherwise.
The Holophane prismatic glass insert corresponds to the PL 1820–1827 series documented in the Holophane Heavy Duty Industrial Reflectors section of the 1933 Holophane trade catalogue, where this type is described as designed for severe industrial conditions and high wattage lamps. The concentrating variants in this series were specifically developed for high-bay lighting — exactly the application from which this example was removed.
Offered here unrestored. Supplied fully restored, rewired, and ready for installation. Input on final finish and paint treatment is welcomed prior to restoration commencing.
