Grey enamel industrial pendants with 18" diameter shades, made in England by The Benjamin Electric Ltd, circa 1940.
The Shade
A grey vitreous enamel reflector, cleaned and polished, with remnants of the original manufacturer's labels kept. This is arguably the company's most popular design. In the industrial era it hung in factories throughout the British Isles and beyond, and many modern lights are copied from it.
The Frame
A steel "C Type" gallery, burnished on a wire wheel to expose the raw metal and bring out the maker's markings, then lacquered to protect it.
The Benjamin Electric Ltd
The Benjamin Electric Manufacturing Company was founded in Chicago in 1901. Its British arm, The Benjamin Electric Ltd, made industrial reflectors in Tottenham, London, and became a leading supplier of factory lighting in Britain. The same shape is available in sizes from small to XL: view our Benjamin collection.
