The Glass
Medium prismatic glass shades marked "HOLOPHANE I 100" and "MADE IN ENGLAND", confirming manufacture by the British arm, Holophane Ltd. The model is featured in the Holophane 1936 catalogue. The prismatic structure spreads the light evenly and gives a soft, controlled glow when lit.
The Frame
Original coppered brass galleries stamped "HOLOPHANE", carrying the natural patina of around ninety years of use.
Holophane
Holophane's prismatic glass was developed to direct and diffuse light efficiently while reducing glare. Fittings of this type were widely installed in churches, schools and public transport buildings across Britain.
