This large copper cased clock by Gents of Leicester is a very special find indeed, the main noticeable difference to the usual copper cased Gents clocks we come across is the addition of the seconds hand.
The hands are driven by a PULY-SYN-ETIC Silent Movement Fig C400A dating the clock circa 1960 and was a movement used extensively in radio and television studios due to its quite operation.
The seconds alternate polarity impulse system was usually only seen in smaller clocks and according to 100 years of Electrical Horology By C.F Reynolds FBHI a very small quantity of special movements were made for clock dials of 18 inch diameter as per the model offered here.
The clock is provided with a modern mains powered impulse unit to drive the rare movement as per its original operation.
A beautiful functional feature wall piece enhanced even more by the copper case and striking red contrasting seconds hand.
