LARGE SQUARE VINTAGE INDUSTRIAL WALL CLOCK BY GENT OF LEICESTER
Rare Square Format — Mid to Late 20th Century
A large-format square industrial wall clock by Gent of Leicester, one of Britain's most respected manufacturers of institutional and industrial timekeeping equipment. The square case format is significantly less common than the standard circular Gent dial and gives the clock a strong graphic presence — the bold Arabic numerals and clean white face sitting within the deep black case read with an almost typographic clarity at scale.
The dial style and case construction place this example in the period between approximately 1960 and 1980, during which Gent supplied clock systems to factories, schools, hospitals and civic buildings across the UK. The depth of the case reflects the original impulse slave mechanism housed within, designed to receive a signal from a master clock and advance the hands at regular intervals — a system that gave large institutional buildings synchronised time across every room.
The original impulse mechanism is present and retained. The clock is supplied with a modern impulse driver unit, compatible with both mains and battery operation, allowing the clock to function as a standalone piece without the need for a master clock system. Mains connection with 24-hour battery backup is available at additional cost.
Offered here unrestored. Supplied fully restored and ready for installation. Input on finish is welcomed prior to restoration commencing.
