Large Industrial Flameproof Caged Pendant Lights by Walsall Conduits Ltd

A pair of large vintage industrial flameproof caged pendant lights manufactured by Walsall Conduits Ltd, a British manufacturer known for producing heavy-duty electrical and conduit equipment for demanding industrial environments.

These fittings are classic FLP (Flameproof) industrial luminaires, designed for installation in areas where explosive gases or volatile materials may be present. The robust construction combines a thick cast iron body with a protective steel cage surrounding the glass enclosure, ensuring both durability and safety in extreme working conditions.

The upper section features a deeply ribbed cast iron housing designed for heat dissipation, while the heavy circular flange retains visible casting details including the Walsall Conduits Ltd manufacturer mark. The thick glass enclosure is protected by a substantial steel cage, a hallmark feature of hazardous-area industrial lighting.

Their heavy proportions and utilitarian design give these lights a strong architectural presence, making them particularly suited to industrial interiors, loft conversions, restaurants, and commercial spaces where authentic reclaimed lighting is desired.

The lights are currently unrestored, allowing the new owner to either retain the original industrial patina or refinish the fittings to suit a particular interior scheme. The cast iron bodies respond particularly well to a variety of finishes including:

• retaining the natural aged industrial paint and patina

• shot blasting for a raw cast iron appearance

• finishing with iron paste to create a traditional malleable cast iron effect
