A highly characterful set of three cast iron globe cage pendants by Atlas, designed originally to protect exposed bulbs in demanding industrial environments. The Cage
Each cage is cast in one piece in iron, forming a complete spherical guard — a circular outer hoop divided by a cross brace, the whole assembly converging at a cast top plate stamped clearly with the ATLAS maker's mark and drilled for direct pendant suspension. Three small bolt-and-nut fixings secure the lamp holder assembly to the top plate, visible in the detail shots and adding to the mechanical honesty of the design. The geometry is precise and confident — the circle and cross form is as visually resolved as it is functional. The cages retain their original grey-blue factory paint with natural rust breakthrough and surface wear throughout, a finish that photographs exceptionally well and sits in the sweet spot between working relic and decorative object. When illuminated, the cage casts a dramatic cross-shadow pattern across the surrounding ceiling and walls — an effect clearly visible in the atmospheric lit shots, and one entirely specific to this form of fitting.
