A Jewel of English Engineering A compact yet incredibly striking flush-to-ceiling fixture sourced from the historic archives of W. Sitch & Co, Soho.
This piece acts like a piece of jewellery for the ceiling. It features a heavy, thick-walled crystal glass dome with a deep "Diamond Point" (or Hobnail) cut pattern. This geometric texture is highly refractive—when lit, it breaks the light into a sparkling, prismatic display, casting beautiful shadows and maximizing the output from a single bulb.
The glass is crowned by a heavy cast brass gallery finished in its original, deep-shine chrome or nickel plate. The casting quality is superb, featuring a crisp gadrooned (fluted) border and a decorative pinecone finial at the apex. Unlike modern chrome, this early plating has a cooler, deeper tone that speaks of quality. It is the perfect scale for a vestibule, hallway, or luxury bathroom.
Provenance: The Sitch & Co Collection This piece hails from the inventory of W. Sitch & Co, London’s renowned lighting engineers established in 1776. Based in Soho, Sitch & Co were the go-to specialists for the capital’s most prestigious projects.
While they manufactured their own designs, they also supplied and maintained fixtures from the world’s finest makers—including F & C Osler, GEC, and Faraday & Son. Their client list read like a Who’s Who of British heritage, supplying fixtures to National Trust properties, grand country manors, government offices, and West End theatres.
To own a piece from this collection is to own a fixture that has passed through the hands of England’s most exacting lighting curators.
