An early British industrial factory pendant by Maxlume, with the original maker's transfer still on the shade. Last one available.
The Shade
A spun steel reflector in vitreous enamel, green outside and white inside. The black oval transfer is clear and legible and reads: “Maxlume Regd. Overlamp Reflector – Patented in GT Britain – British Made”. The enamel shows authentic wear to the lower rim and edges, with minor losses and marks consistent with factory use. It is increasingly hard to find a Maxlume shade untouched with its branding still this clear.
The Frame
This is the classic three-part factory form: the enamel reflector, a separate stem section and a heavy cast iron top with hook suspension. The cast iron keeps its original patination. Plain, functional and well proportioned.
Maxlume
Maxlume was a British maker of industrial reflectors. Its registered “Overlamp” design was patented in Great Britain and supplied to factories and workshops through the first half of the twentieth century. Surviving examples with an intact transfer are now scarce.
